Katherine's Home Daycare

Illness Policy

These policies are established to protect the children in my care and to stop the spread of illness. Ultimately, it is entirely within my discretion whether your child is too sick to attend or stay in my care.

When is your child too ill to attend daycare? When they have any of the following symptoms with a 24 hour period;

  • Fever greater than or equal to 38 degrees C.
  • Severe abdominal pain, vomiting or diarrhea.
  • Moderate yellow/green drainage from the nose
  • Skin rashes as they are difficult to diagnose unless since by a physician.
  • A painful, red throat with difficulty swallowing, even if fever is not present
  • A deep, hacking cough
  • Difficulty breathing or untreated wheezing
  • Complaints of stiff neck and headache with more than one of any of the above stated symptoms
  • Yellow discharge from the eyes or ears
  • An unusual yellow coloring of the skin or eyes
  • Cuts or openings on the skin that are pus-filled or oozing
  • Head lice or nits
  •  Overall irritable and/or lethargic

When can your child return into daycare?

Your child must be symptom free for 24 hours before they can return into my care. Or 24 hours has passed since the first dose of antibiotics have been administered. A doctors note is required for unexplained rashes and for chicken pox before your child may returned to daycare.

What happens if my child becomes ill at daycare?

If your child becomes ill while at daycare you will be notified immediately to come pick him/her up in a timely manner. If you can not be reached then I will call the next person on your emergency contact form. If your child requires emergency attention then I will do so first before I contact you.

All children entering the program must be up-to-date on all immunizations, unless there is a medical reason, then documentation from your doctor is required.

No child who receives ANY vaccination, this includes flu shots, will be permitted into care until a period of 24 hours has elapsed since the vaccine was administered. Please be advised that this is NOT-negotiable. Breaching this policy will lead to immediate termination. Please make arrangements to have vaccination appointments on Friday or an alternate day that does not affect your child’s attendance. Should you choose to vaccinate your child on a day that would affect their attendance payment is still required regardless of attendance.

Head Lice

Your child must be kept home, treated with a over-the-counter shampoo/cream and all nits removed before they can return into daycare.

 Doctors note

If your child is absent for more then 3 days due to a illness then a doctors note is required to return into my care. In some instances you will be asked to keep your child home until I have written permission from your doctor saying your child is well enough to return to daycare.

If your child is to receive antibiotics at daycare, please bring in the labeled bottle from the pharmacy and a syringe or other measuring device. Your written and signed consent is need for me to administer medications.

 If I become ill…

If I become ill with something I might spread onto the children or become too ill to do my job fully, then I will close the daycare. I will contact parents ASAP and try to give you as much notice as possible. All daycare families must have a emergency backup for insistences like this. I have 5 paid personal sick days in a calendar year.
